Please read carefully.
Humanists Iceland is an organisation centered around ethical humanism and offers non-religious ceremonies for humanists and others who wish to honour important life events.
Because these Terms & Conditions contain legal obligations, Humanists Iceland encourages you to read them carefully and understand them before making a booking. By purchasing any service from Humanists Iceland, you agree to the Terms & Conditions outlined below.
Liability
All information on Humanists Iceland’s website is subject to change. We reserve the right to correct any errors or make changes at any time.
Humanists Iceland is not liable for any expenses, losses, damages, accidents, illnesses, schedule changes, or related costs resulting from flight delays, cancellations, injuries, weather, war, natural disasters, strikes, or other disruptions beyond our control.
If a celebrant is unable to perform a ceremony due to such circumstances, we will work closely with you to arrange an alternative date, location, or celebrant.
Prices and Payments
All payments are made in Icelandic Krona (ISK). Humanists Iceland is not responsible for currency fluctuations or additional fees such as bank transfer or credit card charges. All payments and applicable refunds are processed in ISK, and your card issuer may charge a foreign transaction fee.
What Affects the Final Price:
The total cost of your ceremony may include:
- Base Ceremony Fee
We charge a Ceremony fee according to our price list in effect on the date of the booking.
Covers ceremony preparation, interviews, communication, content advice, script, and
performance. - Travel Fees
For ceremonies outside our central service area (Reykjavík), we charge a travel fee according to our current price list, as published on our website at the time of payment.
Travel fees may include charges for:- Driving distance
- Hiking or walking time
- Waiting time
- Special transport needs (e.g., early/late travel, hotel stay, boat, helicopter)
- Additional Day-of Costs
Extra charges may apply if:- The driving or walking distance is longer than expected
- Significant delays occur before the ceremony begins
- The celebrant is required to wait for extended periods
Payment Schedule:
- Ceremony/Confirmation Fee
Your booking is only confirmed once this payment has been received. - Travel Fee
A separate payment link will be sent approximately four weeks before the ceremony.- If unpaid two weeks before the ceremony, the booking may be cancelled.
- Travel costs will be calculated using the price list valid on the ceremony date.
- Additional Costs After the Ceremony
If extra costs are incurred on the day (e.g., delays or extended travel), a new payment link will be sent after the ceremony.
A payment is not considered made until it has been received by Humanists Iceland.
Services Provided
Our ceremony fee includes:
- Preparation of the ceremony
- Interview(s) and communication
- Advice on content and structure
- Drafting the ceremony script
- Performance on the day
We may offer general advice on ceremony locations, but logistical arrangements and legal permissions are the responsibility of the client. Celebrants do not coordinate or secure permits or accommodations.
Clients are responsible for securing any necessary licenses and ensuring they comply with restrictions and regulations, including those regarding the legality of the wedding, use of the location, and conduct during the event.

A ceremony without a Certificate of Examination of Impediment is not legally valid.
After the Ceremony:
- Marriage certificates are issued by Registers Iceland

Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that all clients purchase travel insurance that covers cancellations, delays, and unforeseen changes to plans.
Assumed Risk & Outdoor Activities
Please dress appropriately for Icelandic conditions. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential.
Participation in outdoor ceremonies and activities is at your own risk. Clients are expected to act responsibly and ensure their own safety. Humanists Iceland is not liable for accidents resulting from client actions or external forces beyond our control (force majeure).
Depending on the location or nature of the service, you may be required to sign a separate liability waiver.
Changes and Cancellations
Client Responsibility
You are responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date contact information. This allows Humanists Iceland to notify you of any changes related to your booking or the ceremony.
Changes by Humanists Iceland
If a celebrant becomes unavailable or the ceremony must be postponed, moved, or altered due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness, weather, travel disruption), Humanists Iceland will collaborate with you to find a suitable replacement, time, or location.
Cancellations by the Client
If you cancel services after payment has been made, the following policies apply:
- Payment made, no celebrant assigned: Up to 80% refundable
- Celebrant assigned, more than 5 months before the ceremony: Up to 80% refundable
- Celebrant assigned, 3–5 months before the ceremony: Up to 50% refundable
- Celebrant assigned, 1–3 months before the ceremony: Up to 25% refundable
- Less than 1 month before the ceremony, and the scrpt has been written: Ceremony fee non-refundable
- Less than 1 month, script written, and travel paid: Ceremony fee non-refundable. Travel fee is 100% refundable.
- Client does not show up for the ceremony: No refund
Third-party bookings (e.g., accommodation) are subject to their own cancellation policies and are the responsibility of the client.
Cancellations by Humanists Iceland
If a ceremony is cancelled due to non-payment of required fees (e.g., travel costs), the ceremony/confirmation fee is non-refundable.
Please note: Once a refund has been processed, Humanists Iceland is not responsible for delays in the reimbursement being credited to your account. If you booked through a third-party vendor, refund requests must be directed to them.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
This agreement is governed exclusively by Icelandic law. Any disputes arising from these Terms & Conditions will be submitted to the District Court of Reykjavík.
